How do I maintain my VanDijck e-bike?
VanDijck advises to have the e-bike checked regularly by a dealer. In addition, VanDijck advises to have the e-bike serviced at least once a year. A first service is recommended after 250 km or after 3 months. Additional service is recommended before the cycling season starts or if a long cycling trip is planned. Regular checks can prevent unnecessary damage in the long term, as well as unnecessary costs. Read more about maintaining your e-bike and what you can do yourself here (hyperlink here).
When is the first maintenance service required?
The first service is recommended after 250 km or after 3 months. Additional services are recommended before the start of the cycling season or if a long bike ride is planned. • Check wheels and tires (hub caps, spoke tension, tire pressure, tire tread). • Check all fasteners/nuts and bolts, tighten if necessary. • Check brake pads for wear, adjust cable tension, check braking performance. • Check headset for play, check stem attachment, adjust if necessary. • Clean, tension and lubricate the chain with Teflon spray. • Electrical system: fully charge the battery, clean the pedal sensor with lukewarm water and a sponge. • Derailleur: check that all gears run smoothly, adjust if necessary.
What does a major service entail?
VanDijck recommends that you give your electric bicycle a major service at least once a year. The points of the major service are in addition to a normal service: • Disassemble, degrease, lubricate and assemble the chain and cassette. • Disassemble, clean, re-grease, adjust and assemble the hubs. • Check the spoke tension (tighten if necessary) and spoke the wheels. • Check the tires and inflate them. • Check and tighten the crankset and pedals. • Disassemble, clean, lubricate and assemble the derailleur wheels. • Disassemble, clean, lubricate, assemble and adjust the inner brake and gear cables. • Check the gears and lubricate the shifters. • Check the brakes and lubricate the brake levers. • Check and lubricate the lock. • Check and lubricate the kickstand. • Check the lighting and adjust it for correct operation. • Disassemble, clean (re-grease if necessary), assemble and adjust the headset. • Disassemble, clean, re-grease, assemble and adjust the stem to the correct height. • Remove the seatpost, clean it (if necessary, apply a layer of acid-free Vaseline) and assemble it at the correct height. • Secure the saddle. • Apply a protective (wax) layer to the bike and rub it out. • Take a test ride to check that all functions are working properly.
How do I prevent rust on my e-bike?
In addition to regular cleaning, it is advisable to treat certain parts immediately after cleaning. For example, we recommend greasing chrome parts, unpainted aluminum and stainless steel parts with acid-free Vaseline to prevent oxidation (rust). Rotating parts require grease/oil. It is recommended to regularly lubricate the chain, sprockets and axles. Your dealer can also do this for you.
How do I clean my e-bike?
You can clean your e-bike by first removing the dirt with a
soft brush and then wash it with warm water. This will make the e-bike look
look like new again. Regular cleaning of the e-bike extends the
lifespan. Be careful not to get too much water near electronics and the
battery. Make sure that there is no dirt between the sensor plate in the sensor
(at the bottom bracket). When cleaning the e-bike, it is best to remove the battery
the e-bike. Never use a pressure washer. Many parts of the
bike need grease/oil or Vaseline. Do not wash this off and do not bring it
put back on immediately after washing.
